Record breaking - 65,000 participants will gear up for the 2nd Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore

As one of the marquee races in Singapore’s growing running calendar, the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) has certainly won the hearts of many Singaporeans.

This year’s race will set a new record as 65,000 participants gear up to begin their races from three different start lines. To date, the SCMS remains one of most popular sporting events in Singapore for Singaporeans and our regional friends alike.

But apart from the tens of thousands lacing up to run, the people’s race continues to attract legions of supporters and sporting fans who rise at the break of dawn to spur and cheer on our runners. Their spirited enthusiasm adds to the day’s triumphant atmosphere.

This year’s race promises to be yet another memorable spectacle of sport as race organizer, the Singapore Sports Council, pulls out all the stops to ensure a great race experience for all participants with a host of festivities to spice up the race day atmosphere come this December 4th.

Entertainment Highlights

A premier running event with something for both young and old, spectators at this year’s race will be inspired to drum up their support, thanks to the exhilarating beats by the fusion cultural drummers. The unique percussion cheering squad Bloco Singapura looks set to get you moving to the rhythm of the beat.

For families looking for a fun-filled day out, the professional comedy jugglers, Yoyo trick experts, as well as a designated Kid’s Zone area, guarantees to entice the young ones.  Music lovers will also get a chance to groove on with the sounds of the Amico Live Band.

Also on the cards is a Fancy dress competition, where prizes will be given to the most outrageous, fascinating and comical outfits along with the Spot the SCMS Balloon Backpacker contest, which will give supporters a chance to win vouchers and SCMS premiums.

Transport Services

Back by popular demand, the organizer has also brought back the Supporters’ Tour, providing spectators the rare opportunity to capture the breathtaking action from the best viewing spots along the marathon.

Free shuttle buses will be deployed to ferry supporters to cheer on the runners along various points of the route. This year, an additional pit stop to the Gardens by the Bay has been included to enhance the viewing experience for all.

Thanks to a partnership between SSC and two key public transport providers, spectators heading to the SCMS, during the early morning of December 4 will enjoy overnight MRT train services during the race weekend, giving fans more reasons to cheer.

Running for a Cause

Throughout the years, the SCSM has united people from all walks of life and this year’s race will also give runners the opportunity to run for a good cause. For the first time at the SCMS, runners will be raising funds for their preferred charities through GIVE.sg, the Official Charity Fundraising Platform.

Whether you are a runner looking to set a new personal best, a supporter looking to cheer on your friends and family members who are taking part in the race, or a spectator who loves to catch a glimpse of the race, this year’s SCMS promises to be a one-stop place for everyone to bond and soak in the carnival-like atmosphere along Singapore’s most iconic locations.
