The world’s top women table tennis athletes will come together to compete in the 2011 Volkswagen Women’s World Cup which will be held at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall from 28 to 30 October.

The event, organised by the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) and supported by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), is a prestigious invitation-only individual tournament that will see some of the world’s top women paddlers compete for the Women’s World Cup crown as well as the prize money totalling US$150,000.

19 players have been invited to the Women’s World Cup here in Singapore, which includes World Cup titleholder Guo Yan, World Champion Ding Ning and Japanese favourite, Ai Fukuhara. They will compete against Singapore’s top ranked paddlers, Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu, Li Jiawei and other world class players from table tennis powerhouses Japan, Korea, China.

The final list of women paddlers to compete in the tournament will be finalised by international governing body, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in September 2011.

In the run up to the Women’s World Cup, STTA is giving budding and established designers a chance to design a National Team jersey for the National table tennis teams.

The lucky winner will be given the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness his/her jersey design donned by Singapore’s top paddlers in all 2012 international tournaments as well as a cash prize of S$1000. The winner will be announced at the Opening Ceremony of the Women’s World Cup on 28th October at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

Organisers also announced that tickets for the event will go on sale starting 18 August 2011. Fans and sports lovers will be able to choose from a selection of ticket packages which includes Family Packages, Season Passes, Concessionary prices for students and seniors citizens as well as Early Bird promotions tickets. Tickets will be available at AXS machines island-wide, Ticketbooth outlets or at www.ticketbooth.com.sg. Early Bird ticket prices, which end September 30th, range from $8-15 per session for Adults to $4-8 for students and senior citizens.

This is the second occasion Singapore has hosted the event, with the championships last held here in 2002. With highly anticipated world-class paddlers all challenging for World Cup glory, the tournament promises to capture the imaginations of sporting fans.

STTA BEGINS SEARCH FOR 2012 NATIONAL JERSEY WITH NATIONWIDE DESIGN COMPETITION

The Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) is running a “Design a National Team Jersey” competition for all table tennis fans throughout Singapore.

The competition will see Singaporeans design a National Team jersey for the National table tennis team, which will be worn in all international tournaments in 2012.

The winning design must contain a strong representation of Singapore whilst promoting the values of excellence, integrity, friendship and respect. Participants will be able to submit more than one design and can do so either via sketch or a sample product of their final design. Designs should reflect a Singapore theme and in 2 different colours, and the designers should refrain from the use of white or black as the jersey main colours.

How to take part?

The lucky winner will not only see his/her jersey design being worn by Singapore's top paddlers but will also get a chance to win a top prize of a S$1000. Budding and established designers will also gain extensive media exposure for their design.

Please download the application form before 9 September 2011 at www.stta.org.sg and submit their final designs to [email protected] by 1 October 2011.

The winner will be announced at the Opening Ceremony of the 2011 Volkswagen Women’s World Cup on the 28th of October 2011 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
