Singapore is already in the running for a ‘medal’ in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games even before the start of the competition.

Singaporean Choo Wai Kit’s design was shortlisted and is one of the 168 short-listed entries in the Medal Design Competition organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Wai Kit attributed his motivation to participate in the design competition to all exciting memories of the inaugural Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Even though he is not an athlete, Wai Kit feels that this form of participation is equally exciting for him.

Wai Kit's design is titled "Flight of Olympism"

Inspiration for the design was drawn from the snow-capped Alps, presented as three different peaks and forming the shape a dove taking flight. The bird of peace is shown risingto the occasion, bringing along youths from all parts of the world to compete in a common place and reach the peaks of excellence. Through his design, Wai Kit hopes to send a message to the youths that they can always challenge themselves to scale new heights and reach different peaks of excellence.

When asked what his plans are if he wins, Wai Kit hopes to bring his wife and two children to catch the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games held in Innsbruck; the place which inspired his work.
