Sepcial Olympics Singapore will be hosting 640 Special Olympics athletes from Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines at the 8th Special Olympics Singapore National Games from 31 May to 4 June 2013. The Games, held once every four years, is a competitive multi-sport event for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The Games serve as a platform for the special athletes to demonstrate their sporting skills and talents. It is open to athletes above 8 years old. Each athlete competes in divisions according to their abilities.

The National Games aim to unite the local community through the transformative power of sports and is an invitation for everyone to come and celebrate the talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.

President of the Republic of Singapore Dr Tony Tan, Patron-in-chief of Special Olympics Singapore, is the Guest-of-Honour at the National Games' Opening Ceremony.
