Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE), the international governing body of Olympic Fencing has named our very own Dennis Leong Kok Seng as one of the 24 designated referees for the Fencing sport in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

He is the first Singaporean to be nominated in the capacity of a sporting official - referee, at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Follow The Play Times as we engage Dennis Leong in a bout. En garde!

Fencing is a family of combat sports using bladed weapons. It came of age as a sport in the 19th century. A tense, compelling battle of wits and technique, the sport of Fencing is divided into three weapons: Foil, Sabre and Épée.


 

Residents in the East have been enjoying the extensive range of sports facilities alongside diverse lifestyle features at the Pasir Ris Sports and Recreation Centre (SRC) since 18 July this year.

Pasir Ris SRC is the newest addition to its family of 21 SRCs and boasts an impressive assortment of facilities such as a swimming complex with water play features, a Jacuzzi, a gymnasium with pool view, a 2,000-seater air-conditioned sports hall and a 5-a-side soccer court.

The complex is designed to be user-friendly for all. Braille markings and tactile warning strips to guide the visually-impaired, ramp access to the pool for wheelchair users and slip-resistant tiles at all wet areas ensures that everyone can have a wonderful experience.

Pasir Ris SRC is also the first ‘eco friendly’ sports complex fitted with many environmentally friendly and energy saving features.

The countdown to the year’s most exciting multi sports games has begun.

Even as Team Singapore athletes enter the final lap of preparation for the upcoming SEA Games in Indonesia, anticipation fills the air as Singaporeans get ready to relish xx days of sporting action at the region’s premier sporting event.

Not only will Singaporeans have a chance to watch their heroes in action on television, they will also have many reasons to cheer as Singapore is known to do well in certain sports at these games.

The SEA Games are traditionally where Singapore’s budding sports talents are first given the opportunity to perform at the regional stage. It is where future heroes are born and when Singapore has many opportunities to hear Majulah Singapura being played when we find ourselves at the top of the podium for sports we are traditionally strong at the regional games.

Even as the action unfolds during the SEA Games, a different kind of event is also entering its final stages of preparation – Singapore’s most prestigious running event – the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, happening on Sunday, 4 December 2011.

The ever popular annual event involving promises to be yet another exciting race as runners meander through iconic landmarks like Orchard Road, Sentosa and Resorts World, Marina Bay and Marina Bay Sands, Chinatown and the historical Padang area.

For runners, this is a unique opportunity to run where you normally would not be able to run on a normal day. For supporters, it will be a great chance to come down to the Padang or along the running route to enjoy the festivities or cheer on your friends and family.

For those who prefer water sports, the FINA/Arena swimming world cup event happening over this weekend will be another event to savour. Catch our local swimmers compete against the world’s best for glory.
