If there was one thing that 2010 has given us, it's experience. After all, we had our athletes taking part in major international sports meets such as the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the Asian Games in Guangzhou and of course the inaugural Youth Olympic Games held right here in Singapore.

So without a doubt we can look forward to 2011 being a year when our sportsmen and women ply the lessons they have learnt throughout those gruelling weeks and months.

Asian Para Games Bronze Medal Winning Tenpin Bowling Teams
Ismail Hussain "This is my first international event and I think it was fairly good that I managed to come back with a medal, a bronze. But I think I can do better and if I will train ever harder, I know I will get better results, especially if the existing bodies continue to support us all the way." - Ismail Hussain, who together with Thomas Yong won the Tenpin Bowling Doubles TPB 1 + TPB 3 finals
"I want to thank my coach for all his help and my fellow bowlers for the support they gave to me. I feel euphoric to be part of this team and I believe we will do better and will even improve on this with continued good coaching and better methods. Thank you everyone for your support." - Thomas Yong, who is visually impaired and uses a guardrail to help him line up his shots when he bowls Thomas Yong

Dear Readers,

2010 was a rich and exhilarating time for both the TPT team and sports fans. The year was filled with over 600 international and local sporting events. Our Team Singapore athletes did well and showcased sterling performances at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games 2010 and Asian Para Games 2010.

Personal bests and the medals garnered during these international events proved that our sporting community and lifestyle is growing. In 2011, you will continue to be served with a wide array and an exciting slew of local sporting events. Singapore will host the 19th ICF Canoe Marathon World Championship from 22 to 23 October 2011, while the Netball World Championships will make a return to Singapore from 3 to 10 July 2011. No other Asian country has ever hosted these two championships. Let's not forget that the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) will be back this year. This time, the 26th SEA Games will be held in Indonesia from November 11 to 25. With so many exciting events coming up, remember to plan your 2011 well. We wish you a great sporting year.

Happy New Year and Let's Play!

With more than 13 years of experience coaching netball, New Zealander Kate Carpenter has a lot to offer Singapore's netball team. And with a less than optimal performance at last year's Nations Cup where they came in fourth, the team will need to dig deep for every ounce of advantage they can muster for the World Netball Championships (WNC).
