Lions chase a dream
Singapore a whisker away from 2011 Asian Cup |
Iran and Jordan. These are the hounds who
stand in Singapore’s way of qualifying for
the 2011 Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
Asian Cup Finals in Doha. With just two more
qualifying matches to go, the Lions are all
prepped up to leap into the fray with their
claws drawn as they face two West Asian sides
in the form of Iran and Jordan.
With two wins and two losses under their belt,
the Lions have ample reason to create Singapore
football history. Having bounced back from
their sobering 3 – 1 defeat by Thailand on
14 November by beating them 1 – 0 four days
later in Bangkok, the Lions have demonstrated
their willpower and ability to claw their
way back from the brink of disaster in the
face of overwhelming odds. |

Homecoming of the nation’s pride
Our
sporting heroes return laden with gold |
Taking part in competitive sports as an athlete
representing one of South East Asia’s smaller countries
is a whole different ball game from taking part
as an individual.
Top of the to-do list will be surpassing expectations
and carrying the sporting dreams of an entire nation
upon one’s shoulders, which was a view held unanimously
among supporters and family members who gathered
at the Arrival Hall in Changi Airport for the home-coming
of Team Singapore Athletes from the 25th SEA Games
in Laos. |

Dear Readers
2009 was very memorable for the TPT Team and especially
for Team Singapore. Our athletes delivered |
 |
sterling performances in the region’s
major sporting events, garnering 30 medals at the
first-ever Asian Youth Games held in Singapore from
29 June to 7 July, and 98 medals at the recent 25th
Southeast Asian Games held in Vientiane, Laos from
9 to 18 December.

2010 will be a bumper year for Singapore sports, with the inaugural Youth Olympic Games along with over 600 other sporting events. I am also anticipating the final two matches of the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup Qualifiers when Singapore meets group favourite, Iran at our den on 6 January, and Jordan in Amman on 3 March.
I urge you to turn up and cheer the Lions on as they fight for a spot to make the 2011 Asian Cup finals in Doha. I will be having my favourite curry puffs as I do the Kallang Wave while Kallang Roars.
Big Mike

Warm-up:
Start with five minutes of light aerobic exercises
to raise your heart rate. Jogging or side-stepping are
good ways to achieve this.
Stay hydrated
Cool-down & Stretch: Slow down with some
slow jogging and static stretches to help your body
recover and improve flexibility.
Listen to your body: If you are not feeling
well, the best alternative is to refrain from exercising.
Do the PAR-Q as explained below to assess your readiness
for sports.
Physical
Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)
The PAR-Q is designed to help you assess your level
of readiness for physical activity. It is simple and
takes only a fraction of your time to complete. If you
are planning to become much more physically active than
you are now, start by answering the seven questions
below. If you are between the ages of 15 - 69, the PAR-Q
will tell you if you should first consult your doctor.
If you are over 69 years of age, and you are not used
to being very active, consult your doctor
