Riding on the platform of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010 (Singapore 2010) in August 2010, the Sports Initiation Programme (SIP) was mooted to encourage sports participation amongst Singaporeans, Singapore 2010 athletes and officials, and spectators at the Youth Olympic Games.
Calling all beginners and budding enthusiasts eager to try a new sport!
Learn-To-Play games will introduce you to the basics of various sports through demonstrations, tryouts, video presentations and sports clinics.

Are you a keen sports enthusiast but hardly have chances to play sports?
Do you want to know if you have special talent in sports, yet to be discovered?
Do you want to learn more about other dimensions of sports?
If your answers are “yes”, Learn to Play (LTP) is here for you to find out the answers! Through demonstrations, tryouts, video presentations and sports clinics, LTP will introduce you to the basics and fundamentals of various Olympic Sports. Participants from all ages can experience and learn more about these sports from qualified and experienced officials.
With a Total of 11 sports, namely Archery, Diving, Boxing, Fencing, Handball, Taekwondo, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Weightlifting and Wrestling, there is always something new for you to experience and learn from! Be dazzled also by our Youth Olympic Games Athlete Role Models, as they make their appearances to photo taking sessions and share their life experiences, personal journeys and amazing stories.
Note: Some LTP sited are located within YOG venues and access may be restricted. Nonetheless, many other venues are accessible to public. Do come and join us!
For serious players who would like to have a chance to pit your skills against others, the Learn-To-Compete segment will give you that adrenaline rush!

Be it Badminton, 3 on 3 Basketball,Table Tennis, Beach Wrestling, Tennis or Beach Volleyball, we have a total of 15 sessions ranging from exhibition games, mini tournaments and team challenges held at Sentosa, *Scape and selected Singapore 2010 venues.

If you love match play, are happy to meet fellow sports enthusiasts and are keen to visit the Youth Olympic Games’ (YOG) venues. Learn to Compete (LTC) is designed especially for you! Through exhibition games, mini tournaments and team challenges. LTC will deliver that adrenaline rush to satisfy serious sports enthusiasts. Participants can enjoy on-site match opportunities at world-class field of play by utilising YOG competition venues. Sports include Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Handball, 3-on-3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball and Beach Wrestling.
You can also catch our Athlete Role Models during the programme and try for a quick chat or photo opportunity.

Experience family fun time at the Kids Sports Challenge!
Over at the Singapore 2010 City Celebration @ Marina Promenade venue, the Kids Sports Challenge welcomes families with children between the ages of 5 to 12, and the “young at heart” to come and enjoy the interactive sports arnival where modified sports stations provide maximum porting fun for kids in a safe environment.

All children below the age of 12 who enjoy active, healthy and sporting lifestyle are cordially invited.
Situated at the Singapore 2010 City Celebration @ Marina Promenade, the Kids Sports Challenge (KSC) welcome families with children between the ages of 5 and 12. Children will get to try out various forms of modified sports in a carnival –like atmosphere, ensuring maximum sporting fun in a safe environment. As activities are designed to facilitate experiential learning, children will discover their motor skills and sporting potential in an enjoyable yet challenging manner. The “Fun to be Fit” and “Sports Challenge” segments will provide a starting point for children to cultivate an active, healthy and sporting way of life from young
Look out also for the “Meet Your Icons” segment where participants will come face-to-face with the Youth Olympic Games’ Athlete Role Models and be photographed with them. The “Sports Genius” segment features a sports quiz specially designed and customized for primary school students to assess their knowledge of sports and understanding of the Youth Olympic Games, with great prizes to be won!
Fun to be Fit
Suitable for 5 to 9 years old, this segment comprises game stations that focus on coordination. Motor skills and having fun, spurring budding juniors to take up sports. Children can try their hand on the mini tennis court or test their aim at the mini archery course.
Sports Challenge
Older children from 10 to 12 years old can put their skill to the test in the more advanced stations that emphasise teamwork and technical skills. Be it the 3-on-3 basketball or 5-aside football, there will be a wide variety of sports to choose from.
Meet Your Icons
Children can look forward to daily appearances of the Athlete Role Models in the “Meet your Icons” segment, getting up close and personal with international athletes through dialogues, photo-taking and autograph-signing opportunities. Hurry! Limited seats available.
Sports Genius
Children can represent their primary schools to pit their wits against one another in the junior sports quiz, there they will be tested on topics such as Olympism, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games, health and sports.

Spot Singapore 2010 on wheels!
Beginning May, a truck has been hitting the roads to bring the values of Olympism to schools, shopping malls and various sporting venues. It is a mobile road show comprising of mini sports stations as well as information on the 26 sports of Singapore 2010.

A road show cum exhibition on sports at your convenience... the MRS is coming to you. Pick up a skill or sign up for future participation.
The Mobile Road Show (MRS) comprises a mobile truck carrying information on key sports, with mini sports stations for tryouts and sports demonstrations. Drop by and find out more about the sports that will captivate audiences worldwide during the inaugural Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. The MRS will travel to various malls, community events and selected Singapore 2010 competition venues in August 2010.
