Ladies Only: All-female karting clinic this weekend
Ladies, toss the heels aside and get your sports shoes out this weekend.
Instead of going partying and drinking, 50 ladies will be blazing the track at Kartright Speedway’s inaugural Ladies’ Night.
Initially planned for Friday night only, Ladies’ Night @Kartright is now extended to Saturday night as well, due to the enthusiastic response.

Many are keen to try something new and there are husbands and boyfriends sponsoring their partners to attend.
Ladies’ Night @Kartright is a two-hour introductory karting course for women only, especially those who have always wanted to try karting but are too shy to be around males.
A monthly affair, it might subsequently progress to intermediate or advanced levels.
The track will be closed and participants of the event will be karting in the company of other ladies, hence not having to worry about being laughed at by men for being slow.
Instead of paying $45 for 10 minutes on a Friday night, these ladies forked out $90 each - $80 if they bring a girlfriend along – for a two-hour session that includes proper teaching and professional guidance.
Multiple British karting champion and Formula 3 driver Richard Bradley as well as national veteran karting champion Kenny Yip will be coaching the ladies with both theory and practical lessons.
Although motorsports is a male-dominated industry, there is still a place for women on the track and not just as a grid girl or a spectator.
It has always been my aim to see more women getting active in motorsports and now is the time I can fully pursue my passion, having left my stable job at an international hotel chain last year.

I share my experiences and thoughts on my website (www.cheryl-tay.com) and I hope to gather more like-minded enthusiasts, especially women.
The timing of the first OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge is perfect too, leading me to enter an all-female team for the four-hour kart endurance race.
What gave me the last boost of confidence was when MindChicClub.com approached me and offered to sponsor a team for the Challenge through me.
MindChicClub.com is a niche portal that specialises in introducing and facilitating sports, games and hobbies to working adults in bid of promoting a healthy work-life balance as well as fan interest and increased spectatorship.
Ladies’ Night @Kartright is part of the process of recruiting drivers for the all-girl team that I’m putting together.
There will be an official selection round for my all-female team but from Ladies’ Night I might spot potential talent that I will invite back for the selection round.
The team consists of six drivers, of which four are main drivers and two reserves. Anyone with an addiction to speed and a passion for motorsports is welcome to try out.
Prior racing experience is not necessary, so long as they show promising talent, is a team player, is committed and has the required fitness levels. It is a four-hour kart endurance race after all.
The beauty of karting – the foundation of motorsports – is that there are no age limits and no form of licence is required. One who has no driving licence is also allowed to kart.
The challenges I face in this testosterone-heavy place are unusual sometimes but no less tough; if only you knew what I have been through and am going through!
Nonetheless, there is still a place for women in skirts in this world.
