The Nike+ Human Race on the 24 October 2009
Themed as ‘The Day the World Runs’, the race will take place on 24 October 2009. Hosted in 25 cities around the globe, including major cities such as New York City, Buenos Aires, London, South Korea, Melbourne and Rome, Singapore is the only host city in South East Asia. By fusing the cyber world with the physical running world, the seamless race is practically open to anyone, anywhere.
Although the route in Singapore has yet to be fixed, response has been overwhelming. Local runners can choose from four categories to participate in and even choose to run their own route on race day. All they need to do is use their Nike+ iPod Sport Kit or Nike+ SportBand to record their run. Participants who finish the race will also receive a special finisher’s bracelet.
To spice things up, a Guys Vs Girls challenge has been organised to raise funds for charities prior to the race day on 24 October. Guys will be running for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) while the Girls will clock miles for the ST School Pocket Money Fund. Leading the challenge is MediaCorp artiste Tay Ping Hui for the guys and Hype Records artiste Rui En for the girls.
This challenge had started on 12 September and will continue till race day on 24 October. The first group with the most distance clocked in every week will emerge victorious. For the first two weeks, the winning gender will win $5,000 each week for their charity. $10,000 will be up for grabs for the third and fourth week each. The fifth week will see the winning team pledging $20,000 to their Charity. There is no limit to the number of runners joining the groups and both genders can run for either team.
A special treat is also in store for the participants. An exclusive music concert will be staged after the race where runners may be regaled by famous acts such as Thaitanium, the Thai hip hop music group, and other bands like Estrange from Malaysia and Composition B from Singapore. The venue for this concert will be confirmed at a later date.
