Prime Minister Launches Sengkang SRC

The first-of-its-kind hybrid facility delivers a sporting lifestyle under one roof

The Sengkang Sports and Recreation Centre (SRC) was officially opened last Sunday, 26 July, by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Residents from the Sengkang West Constituency gathered on that sunny morning to celebrate the official opening of their newest playground, which boasts an impressive array of sports and lifestyle facilities.

As early as 8 o’clock in the morning, residents started to flock to the Sengkang SRC. There was a full line-up of activities awaiting them, from sports like synchronised swimming, rhythmic gymnastics and martial arts, to other community activities like line dancing and calligraphy.

With the unique feature of co-locating a community club with a sports complex, residents will be able make good use of the brand-new facilities and enrol themselves in sports and lifestyle courses. At the same time, the Sengkang SRC offers a variety of services all under one roof, to better serve the needs of the residents. The Sengkang SRC is the first in a new generation of hybrid sports facilities that includes co-location with a community club. It allows the residents to integrate and bond through sports and other lifestyle activities, all under a purpose-built facility.

“Sport is a good unifier ... for Sengkang residents, this Sports and Recreation Centre is a key infrastructure. We hope to come up with imaginative joint activities so that we can attract residents to come and use more facilities, and make this area a vibrant centre of activities for Sengkang residents,” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
