Website Breaks New Ground as First of Its Kind

With up to four concurrent ‘live’ streams, the world can catch real-time action of the Asian Youth Games (AYG) in the comfort of their own home.

A deliberate move by the Singapore AYG Organising Committee (SAYGOC), the use of new media will allow the Games to reach out to the digital generation and at the same time, showcase the country’s technological prowess.

On top of the ‘live’ webcast of the sports events, the AYG Opening and Closing Ceremonies can be enjoyed online too. In addition, 'web potatoes' can catch up on events that they missed by clicking on the Video-On-Demand clips that will replay key sporting highlights.

Besides its webcast capabilities, the website features several dynamic interactive elements that will actively engage the youth community in Asia. Various contests have been designed to encourage online participation. An AYG Community message board has been incorporated to create a social network-like setting to draw youths to ‘hang out’ on the website, where they can post and share  AYG-related stories, videos and photos.

Other useful features include a comprehensive digital library, snippets of the sports events and merchandise  information. Key moments captured at the competitions will be presented in the photo library while snippets of the sports events will allow the audience to re-live the highlights of the Games.

As explained by Mr Jose Raymond, Head of the IT and Communications Department, SAYGOC, the initiative will help to keep the local media industry relevant and engaging. He added, “This is the first time that a multi-sport event is employing new media channels as its primary broadcast platform – another first for the SAYGOC. The website has something for everybody.”

Check out the dynamic AYG website now. Participate in the daily contest and stand to win attractive Games merchandise!
