In the year 2000, Tanjong Pagar’s striker Nicodeme Boucher was suspended for a year after assaulting Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAFFC) defender Tan Kim Leng in the showers.

Three years later, Ex-Sembawang Rangers defender Shariff Abdul Samat was fined $500 and suspended for nine months after punching Geylang United’s Peter Bennett.

Four years after that incident, then Tampines Rovers striker Noh Alam Shah was fined $2,000 and banned for seven months after assaulting SAFFC defender Daniel Bennett during the Singapore Cup final.

And three years later, hell breaks loose between the Young Lions and Beijing Guoan.

In the Great Eastern-Yeo’s S-League game at Jalan Besar Stadium yesterday, the match between both teams looked like a usual S-League game especially when the game was about to end in a minute.

But things took a turn at the 89th minute and that’s when all the drama began.

The score was initially 1-0 with Beijing Guoan in the lead after Zhang Ye scored the first goal in the 48th minute. Young Lions’ Afiq Yunos equalized it at the 88th minute. After which, one of the Young Lions was tackled in the middle of the field which led to a mass brawl.

As a result, Young Lions Gabriel Quek suffered an injury to his arm while Faritz Abdul Hameed sustained a head injury and were both sent to the hospital.

The match will be rescheduled.
