The record-breaking national 4 x 100m men’s relay team officially legitimized their sponsorship agreement with VGO Corporation Limited on Friday, 14 May at the Mizuno Concept Store in Paragon Shopping Centre.

Sprinters Gary Yeo, Lee Cheng Wei, Muhammad Amirudin and Muhammad Elfi, along with their coach, Melvin Tan, were present for this historic occasion. The team will be sponsored with track and field equipment worth more than $10,000, courtesy of VGO Corporation Limited.

The sponsorship comes at an ideal time for the quartet, as they prepare for the upcoming Asian Grand Prix in June and more importantly, the New Delhi Commonwealth Games in October and the Guangzhou Asian Games in November.

Speaking to the media, Melvin shared a little insight of how the sponsorship came about. “After the SEA Games, I felt that we needed some form of support if the boys were to improve, and I wanted them to have the top range of spikes to go faster. I approached the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), and they linked up with VGO. I would like to thank SSC for being sincere and genuine in trying to help us, and VGO for their generosity and support.”

Cheng Wei echoed his coach’s sentiments. “I am glad to receive help and would like to thank SSC. Training gear is hard to get and I appreciate all the help given.”

“We will do our utmost for Singapore to justify the faith shown in us by everybody”, added Gary.
