As part of the preparations for the ASEAN Football Championships in December, the Singapore National football team will embark on a 10-day training trip to Serbia in August.
The Lions will play three friendlies while in Serbia, taking on the Serbian Olympic team, and Serbian Superliga sides OFK Beograd and Spartak Zlatibor Voda.
OFK Beograd are currently third in the league, and notable former players include Lazio’s Aleksander Kolarov, Portsmouth’s Dusko Tosic and Chelsea right-back, Branislav Ivanovic, recently named in the Premier League’s Team of the Year.
Spartak Zlatibor Voda is a merger of two clubs, Spartak Subotica, and FK Zlatibor Voda. The club currently sits behind OFK Beograd in fourth place, and Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic played for Spartak Subotica on a year’s loan during the 2000-2001 season. Another famous name to have played for Spartak is Valencia’s Nikola Zigic, who scored 14 goals in 11 games for the modest side before moving on to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.
Coach Raddy Avramovic will hope the training trip will put the Lions in good stead for Southeast Asia’s showpiece event, as they look to become the first side to win the trophy four times.
