Worldwide Olympic Partner Coca-Cola officially became a partner for Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games today.
Coca-Cola Singapore General Manager, Mr Antonio Del Rosario and Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) both signed the agreement on a reproduction of Coca-Cola’s outdoor advertisement to officiate the partnership.
Dr Vivan Balakrishnan, Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Mr Ng Ser Miang, Chairman of SYOGOC were both invited to witness the event.
“Today’s signing extends the Company’s relationship with the Olympic Games dating back to our association with the Olympic movement so it is a natural progression to be supporting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games here in Singapore,” remarked Mr Rosario.
Mr Goh, full of confidence, said, “With the support of Coca-Cola who will be running programmes to motivate the torchbearers and spectators, we can experience the same spirit and euphoria right here in Singapore when the Youth Olympic Flame journeys around the island.”
But before the signing, a cake bearing the Coca-Cola/ Singapore 2010 composite logo was brought out.
Ms Jasmin Vinculado, Coca-Cola Singapore Marketing Manager explained, “The logo combines the rich history and dynamic future of Singapore with the excitement of the first ever Youth Olympic Games.
“Subtle overlapping ring-like shapes reference the scale pattern present throughout Singapore in art, architecture and food, and form the iconic Contour Bottle. The Singapore 2010 logo springs from the bottle in a dynamic plume shape. The resulting composite shape fuses the two logos into a single unit reminiscent of the iconic Merlion silhoutte.”
Lyo and Merly, Mascots for YOG, made a surprise appearance at the event.
Guests were almost treated to the next surprise, a swimming performance, if not for the showers and lightning present.
“As we all know, this is the first time that our nation is hosting the Olympic torch relay. We invite each and every of you to be part of this experience, whether as a torchbearer, or to cheer on the torchbearers as they bring the Flame past your neighbourhood or workplace, or to join in the community celebrations taking place as part of the journey of the Youth Olympic Flame,” said Mr Goh.
Coca-Cola Singapore will be providing over 1.5 million units of beverages, refreshing 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), along with estimated 1,200 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire yourh around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. It will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.
