The Fairprice Foundation Netball Super League (NSL), Singapore’s elite premier netball league, will begin play on Saturday, March 13 at the Jurong East Sports and Cultural Centre (SCC). This league will see the national squad and age group players and the best club and school players, don the jerseys of their respective teams in the seven-week competition.
This year, the Fairprice Foundation NSL will see a new format with seven teams competing for honours. Three of the top clubs in Singapore- the Nike Marlins, the Sneakers Stingrays and the Bedok Kings Viper will make up three of the competing teams. Of the remaining clubs, two- Magic Dolphins and Mighty Mannas- were formed through selection trials. The sixth team, M1 Sunfish will be represented by the National U-21 players and the last team is a top team from Malaysia, the Arowanas.
Since its debut in 2000, the NSL is undoubtedly the most prestigious and eagerly awaited event in the year for the netball fraternity, as the teams battle it out for the top prize of $10,000. Players will also be vying for the coveted Most Valuable Shooter, Midfielder and Defender awards, which will be given out at the end of the season.
The NSL will culminate with the grand final on May 1, with the announcement of the National Open squad. |
