The Football Association of Singapore is proud to announce that Assistant Referee Jeffrey Goh has been selected among four trios of Asian referees for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.
The FIFA Referees Committee announced the appointments on Friday with a total of 30 trios of referees representing 28 different countries selected.
Goh’s trio of referees includes Mu Yuxin of China and Mohd Salleh Subkhiddin of Malaysia. His selection makes it the third consecutive time that Singapore referees are represented at the World Cup Finals following K Visva Nathan in 2002 and Shamsul Maidin in 2006.
38-year-old Goh has been a referee since 1997 and became a FIFA referee in 2006. His performances on the lines have been rewarded with three consecutive S.League Assistant Referee of the Year awards from 2007 to 2009.
His international experiences on the continent include FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the 2008 AFC Champions League Final 1st Leg between Gamba Osaka and Adelaide United.
Goh was understandably delighted when he received the news. "It’s fantastic and no words can describe it. I’m very honoured to represent our country, FAS and Asia.
"There is however still a long way to go as they will now assess our performances over the next few months. I would like to thank my family, the FAS Referees Committee and Department for their support."
Jeffrey Beh, Chairman of the FAS Referees Committee, said, "I’m very pleased and happy for Jeffrey. He has trained hard and deserves it. His appointment is reflective of how the development of our referees is going which is of a consistent and high level as he will be the third referee in a row that is going to the World Cup."
The selected 30 trios of referees will head over to the Canary Islands in Spain next month for a training seminar before a final assessment in May regarding the acting and support referees prior to the first match appointments for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. |
