The future looks bright for the Singapore Slingers as they have secured a spot in the playoffs and will possibly, emerge victorious in the Asean Basketball League. It has been a rollercoaster journey for the Slingers as they started off the league with an impressive four wins in a row, before being handed their first defeat against the Philippine Patriots. As the saying goes, “What goes up must come down.” The Slingers won one more game against Indonesia’s Satria Muda Britama, before losing three games in a row. Despite the poor performances by the Slingers, Head Coach, Frank Arsego had faith in his charges as they rose from the slums with stellar performances, notably, the trashing of the KL Dragons, 92 – 74 in their second meeting. The Slingers finished the season with two consecutive away wins against Brunei Barracudas, 89 - 95 and Thailand Tigers, 80 – 92, to clinch 2nd spot in the league standings. The wins gave the Slingers a remarkable 10-5 win-loss record. They now face Indonesia’s Satria Muda Britama in the opening game of the three-game semi-final playoffs on Sunday, January 31st, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. You can expect the Slingers to give in everything they have for the playoffs. Be sure to bae rooting for your local boys such as Hong Wei Jian and Marcus Ng and of course with the help of their foreign counterparts, Kyle Jeffers and Michael LeBlanc.
