Singapore will have its first ever representation this December 5th to 12th 2009 at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals taking place at Ghibli Raceway International in Egypt. Jack McGregor of Black Dog Racing Team has been selected based on his stellar performance at this year’s Rotax Max Malaysian Challenge to represent Singapore. Jack will battle it out with more than 200 drivers from 55 nations for the prestigious title of Rotax Max Challenge World Champion 2009.
The Rotax Max Challenge is the largest karting series in the world organized by BRP-Rotax, the world leading manufacturer of go kart engines. More than 15,000 drivers worldwide have competed for the chance to race at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, also known as the “Olympic Games of Karting”. In 2009, the Black Dog Racing Team participated in the Rotax Max Malaysian Challenge, which was contested on tracks all over Malaysia.
Jack has been part of the Black Dog Team for only one year but has been racing in the highly competitive senior category for drivers age 15 to 32. Despite being the youngest driver in his class, Jack beat all the other Singapore based drivers and has qualified to represent Singapore in the world finals.
Jack McGregor, a 15 year old Chatsworth High School student, said “I am so excited at the opportunity to compete at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and race against some of the best drivers in the world. I have always loved motorsport and participating this year at the Rotax Max Challenge has been a great experience to compete regularly with some of the best drivers in Singapore and Malaysia. I have been training hard on the track to improve my driving technique, as well as off the track to improve my physical endurance, so that I can do Singapore proud. “
“This was our first year competing as a team and our drivers have had numerous wins and podium finishes, we feel that we have earned our place in the world finals. This is also the first time Singapore will be represented at the grand finals, so we don’t expect to win it but we hope to be competitive. As one of the youngest in his class, we want Jack to learn as much as he can from this field of top drivers as part of his skills development,” said Mr Kyme Hallion, Black Dog Racing Team Manager.
The Rotax MAX World Championships follows strict rules - sealed Rotax engines, same tyres and homoligated Karts ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to win. This series is all about the driver’s skills and his ability to set up the kart. The organisers supply everyone with an identical kart, identical tyres and identical engines with no modifications permitted.
“The Black Dog Racing team was set up to get more people into karting. Unfortunately there are no certified race tracks or suitable training facilities for Singapore karters so our only option was to train and race in Malaysia,” said Mr Guy Ermer, Managing Director of Black Dog Racing. “Within one year, we have managed to take Singapore go-karting to its next level. Black Dog Racing will continue to drive the development of motorsport and look to host at least one round of the Rotax Max Challenge in Singapore next year.”
Black Dog Racing, Singapore is the Rotax authorised dealer and racing team. Currently the team comprises of 3 Micromax drivers, 4 Senior drivers and 4 Masters drivers. All have been competing in the Rotax MAX Malaysian Challenge 2009 over the past year.
