Team Singapore netballers (in purple sports bib) dominated the match from start to finish.
On paper, both teams seemed evenly match, with Malaysia only a few places behind Singapore in the International Federation of Netball Association rankings.
However, the netball match was far from even, dominant from the get-go, the Team Singapore netball girls outplayed their Malaysian rivals with a score of 51-29.
Racing to a 16:7 lead after the first quarter, the Malaysians had no chance of making a comeback as our Singapore netballers were faster, better and hungrier. With an excellent display of skills and team work, there was no chance that they would not have emerged victorious at the final whistle.
Though this victory might not be of much significance as the match was just a friendly, the manner in which our netballers won certainly deserved the plaudits.
Playing with confidence, our girls went about the job with ruthless efficiency, as they made sure the Malaysians would enjoy very little possession of the ball.
It was also pleasing to note that the offensive players have developed some form of telepathy as they displayed excellent passing and mesmerising attacking plays, which constantly drew applause and cheers from the crowd.
The victory marks a perfect start for our Team Singapore netballers as they prepare for the upcoming Mission Foods World Netball Championships 2011. With such international friendlies having a huge bearing on the final selection, the girls did their chances no harm with this brilliant display.
Speaking to head coach Kate Carpenter on what she thought of today’s performance she said, “There were some wonderful attacking displays and the shooters displayed good understanding with each other.”
Singapore will face Malaysia again on 22 May at 10am at the Jurong East stadium. Head on down and cheer on our Team Singapore netballers as they attempt to net another victory over our neighbours.
Go Team Singapore!
