Amir Battles his Way to Victory

Going up against a seasoned veteran with more than 100 professional fights is certainly not an easy task, but 16-year-old Amir Khan brought the home crowd to its feet as he not only won the main event of the night, but won it in style.

Showing true dedication for his passion for the sport, Amir has made many sacrifices and this victory definitely provides some form of vindication for his efforts. Undeniably, this will certainly motivate him to train even harder for the upcoming 2011 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Palembang, Indonesia.

With not a hint of fear in his eyes, the young rising star, showed the crowd at *Scape that he was certainly not one to be trifled with. Despite being seen as the underdog, Amir made light work of his opponent.

Starting the bout tentatively, both fighters were content with the odd jabs here and there, much to the dismay of the crowd.

However the tempo increased during the second round as Amir’s Malaysian opponent, Hamdan came flying out of his corner and unleashed a flurry of kicks and punches that not only connected, but rattled Amir.  Disoriented and breathing heavily, the night may have been over for Amir if not for the bell that signaled for the end of the second round.

His opponent smelt blood; Amir seemed there for the taking, bursting out of his corner again for the third round, Hamdan went in search of the knockout. The punches were heavier, the kicks were harder and Amir seemed visibly shaken.

But like a wounded lion forced into a corner, Amir mustered all his strength and launched a fight back. Refusing to admit defeat, he absorbed the grueling blows and when the opportunity arose, he returned the favour.

Reeling from those blows, Hamdan was not a happy man as this was definitely not part of his script. Seeking to end the fight, he swung wildly with all his might, he was looking for the knockout blow, but alas on one of his wild miscalculated swings, he got caught and found himself in Amir’s clinch.

Unable to break free, he was manhandled and walloped against his will. Now the predator had become the prey. Amir had a surge of power and went straight in for the kill.

After unleashing a multitude of elbows to his head, Amir manages to floor Hamdan, the crowd leapt to its feet, as the referee started the count, one, two…eight, nine and it was over, it was over! Amir had defied the odds, winning the match via a knockout.

Amir’s father Ansari was all smiles as he witnessed his son’s match. There was never a doubt in his mind that his son would emerge victorious. He said, “I knew he was going to do it, I never doubted my boy and this victory will only motivate him to train even harder for the SEA games.
