Marlins Still Perfect after Four

Nike Marlins remain top of the table of the NTUC FairPrice Foundation Netball Super League after another two rounds of games played at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall over the weekend of 12 and 13 March 2011. The Marlins started the weekend with a 52-25 drubbing of the M1 Sunfish, who are led by national coach Kate Carpenter to make it three wins from three. They then followed it up with 58-24 demolition of the Bedok King Vipers.

The weekend also saw the season’s first draw with Blaze Dolphins and Mighty Mannas contesting a very tight encounter on Saturday, with both teams separated by no more than three goals at the end each quarter. The draw and the 37-34 win over the M1 Sunfish on Sunday put the Blaze Dolphins second on the table ahead of adidas Sneakers Stingrays on goal percentage. The adidas Sneakers Stingrays’ climb up the table to third was aided this week by wins over Bedok King Vipers and Mighty Mannas to stretch their run of wins to three after their opening lost to the Marlins the week before.

Come Round 5, the teams will be further boosted by one foreign player turning out for each team from nations like Fiji, Tanzania and Papua New Guinea. The Marlins, already with national captain Jean Ng as their goalkeeper; will be further strengthen by Papua New Guinea international Nisha Omi, who can play at goal defense or as goalkeeper. The games will continue each weekend till 9 April where the top four teams at the end of the league will play out in the semi-finals.
