By 14 March, there is no excuse for you not to hit the gyms and burn that gained holiday weight, as Fitness First, the world’s largest privately owned health club group, announced that they would provide a week of free gym entries as part of International Fitness Week.

Into it’s third year, International Fitness Week, which will kick off from 14 March till 20 March, is a week that is set aside to get people to exercise more and live healthier. Fitness First is pulling out all the stops this year to deliver the message of living healthy, which includes organising a slew of activities  and enlisting the help of former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown, or Mel B as she is better known to be their ambassador.

“We’ve really made some fantastic progress over the last three years by helping people make exercise part of their everyday life. I’m proud to be a part of it,” said Melanie Brown as she spoke at a press conference with Anthony Tottman, the Managing Director of Fitness First Singapore.

Tottman expressed his excitement at the programme and results that he hopes to see. “Last year we had more than 1200 people who came to our gyms, just to try it out. This year we focused a lot more on promotions. Mel’s here to lend a famous face and we have radio adverts and flyers,” he said. “So if this stimulates people to even just get out and walk around the park, that will be perfect. We’ve made a difference.”

Melanie Brown also gave some of her fitness tips, talking about how she juggles being a mother of two and her television career. “I work out every other day, usually when the kids are sleeping or when they’ve gone to school,” she said. “I do some half hour work outs when I don’t have the time.”

The Spice Girl will at the Fitness First Dance Out party on 12 March where local dance groups will be having a dance out at Dbl 0. But you can also catch her at the many Fitness First gyms, working out with the regular people as Fitness First opens its doors for anyone to just walk in and exercise from 14 to 20 March 2011.
