Marlins Off To A Perfect Start

The Nike Marlins got off to a perfect start to their NTUC FairPrice Foundation Netball Super League 2011 campaign after chalking up a perfect two wins out of two after the first weekend of competition.

Led by National Team captain, goalkeeper Jean Ng and supported by fellow internationals Pearline Chan at wing attack and centre Li Huilin, the Marlins beat last season’s runners-up, the Mighty Mannas 51-45 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall on Sunday 6 March 2011, to record their second victory after defeating the adidas Sneakers Stingrays 48-40 the day before.

"Our combinations worked and we managed to get the goals today," said Marlins’ coach Noraida Abdul Malik in an interview with MediaCorp after the game. "What I'm pleased with is we managed to pull ahead in the third quarter which allowed some of the other girls to come off the bench and have a go."

The Marlins are the only team in the six team league still hanging on to a 100 percent record after the first two rounds of games and top the league table with a maximum four points. The top four sides at the end of the season will advance to the semi-finals on April 9, with the winners of the Grand Final, which will be held at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall on April 16, taking home the championship trophy and a $10,000 cheque.
