After a well-rested four-month break, Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup leader Richard Bradley of Singapore is ready to resume the title race at the 2010 Formula BMW Pacific championship. Following six of 15 rounds of the series, the 19-year-old Eurasia Motorsport driver entered this weekend with a 34-point lead over his closest contender for the overall title. Held at the Guangdong International Circuit in China, Rounds 7 to 10 will take place as part of the Hong Kong Autosport Challenge.
“I’ve been looking forward to this weekend as I’m excited to get back behind the wheel and race. The rest of the season will be very fast-paced as the remaining nine rounds take place over the next three months. I’ve had some days of testing during the break and I’m all geared up to put in my best performance and maintain the lead,” said Bradley.
During the break, the former multiple British kart racing champion made a return at the opening round of the Asian Open Karting Championship (AKOC) in June to keep fit and enhance his race craft. Since he last raced in karts last November at the WSK International Series (Super KF category), Bradley has not karted competitively. Still, that did not stop him from clinching pole position before going on to win all three heats, the pre-final as well as the final at the Formula 125 Senior class of AKOC.
In addition, Bradley was selected as the ambassador for F1 in Schools in Singapore, where he advocates the importance of technical and engineering knowledge in motorsports.
Bradley made a spectacular debut in his rookie single-seater season at the opening rounds of the Championship which were held as support races to the Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix. Clinching back-to-back victories, Richard qualified in pole position and set the fastest lap times for both races. His pole position time was a new record in a Formula BMW at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia.
Come September, Bradley will be racing across the streets of Singapore at Marina Bay when the Series visits our sunny island as a support race to the Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.
