By all accounts, Isabelle Li is a rising star.
Discovering her passion for table tennis in primary three, the 15 year-old student will be competing in the upcoming Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The five-time winner of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Junior Circuit Girls’ Singles was recently selected to be part of Singapore Table Tennis Association’s (STTA) Youth Development Endowment Fund for its National Youth Table Tennis players.
Spotted by the Singapore National Team when she was 10 years-old, Isabelle clinched her first ever title in 2007 as champion in the ITTF Junior Circuit in Congo Brazaville, Africa. She was chosen for the development fund as she displayed remarkable potential, commitment and outstanding service.
In primary three, she won herself a silver after playing in the inter-primary school tournament. From then until her last year of primary school, she earned individual golds. In primary six, she ventured further from school tournaments and took part in the South-East Asia (SEA) Junior Championships and took second place.
This year, Isabelle was awarded the Meritorious Award (Individual) at the Singapore Sports Awards 2010.
Although table tennis takes up most of her time, as she trains as early as 6.30am daily in the Singapore Sports School (SSP), she is just like any normal child who loves going to church, playing computer, listening to music, watching movies and going out with her friends.
Having taken part in so many overseas tournaments, what does she miss most about Singapore
“It definitely has to be my family. Not so much on the food, because there is so much nicer food overseas!
