Fifty sailors from Thailand, Japan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia were in Pattaya for the first continental qualifier for the inaugural 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

Over the past week, the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Thailand hosted the YOG Asian qualifier for the One Person Dinghy Boys and Girls events in conjunction with the 2009 Byte CII Asian Championship. At this event, three qualifying places were up for grabs in both the boys and girls categories.

Singapore, 30th November 2009 - Netball Singapore today announced the final 12 players that will represent the country at the 2009 Nations Cup which begins on 6th December at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
 
The six-day event pits Singapore against Canada, Malaysia, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Tanzania in a round-robin format, followed by the finals on 12th December.

The NOSS Sailing Championship concluded today with 10 races conducted for the Byte fleet and eight races for the Optimist sailors held off the National Sailing Centre.
 
Scott Glen Sydney (18), one of Singapore’s top Laser sailors who is currently serving his National Service, topped the score board at the three-day regatta. Scott beat the rest of the competition in the single-handed Byte division winning nine out of ten races. Brothers Tan Jen U (15) of St Joseph’s Institution and Tan Jen-E 913) of Raffles Institution, follow in second and third position respectively.

The Team Singapore Well-wishing road show made a stop at Bugis Junction this weekend. Well-wishers flocked to the booth to pen their messages of support for the Team Singapore contingent for the 25th SEA Games in Vientiane, Laos from 9-18 December.
 
The campaign aims to rally 100,000 well-wishes from the general public for the 195 athletes, representing the nation, across 18 sports next month.

Only two weeks until the Nations Cup rolls into town for the fourth edition and Netball Singapore are busy getting prepared for the challenge that awaits them. This year, the week-long competition will feature six countries from 6-12 December at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall. 
 
The Cook Islands are unable to make the trip this year and will be replaced by Tanzania who will make their debut in the tournament. The African nation are a relatively unknown entity as they are yet to be given an official world ranking due to a lack of international matches under their belt. This tournament will provide fantastic international exposure for their team.

Brimming with confidence from their recent 3-1 victory over Indonesia, the Lions faced off against Thailand on 14 November 2009 at the National Stadium. That confidence was shattered in just nine minutes when referee, Takayama Hiroyoshi, awarded Thailand with a penalty kick through Noh Alam Shah’s handling of the ball from a shot by Datsakorn Thonglao in the box. Sutee Suksomkit promptly stepped up and put the ball in the back of the net.

SAFRA ROCK On 2009 concluded on 15 November with some of the youngest climbers pitting their skills and speed for the first time in the inaugural Junior (Under-12) category.
 
Russell Boon, 11, winner of the Speed Junior Boys category, scaled 10 meters up the climbing wall along two routes in a total of only 39.76 seconds to clinch the top spot. The Maris Stella High School (Primary) student only took up the sport more than a year ago when he decided to join sport climbing as a Co-curricular Activity in his school.

Wrestling exponents looking to perfect their grappling technique now have another cause for joy, as the permanent wrestling training ground at 102 Upper Aljunied Road was declared officially open on Saturday 7 November 2009. Welcoming guests at the opening ceremony was Mike Denoma, President of Wrestling Federation of Singapore (WFS).

Swopping their soccer boots for dress shoes, our local soccer luminaries lit up the MediaCorp TV Theatre on the evening of Monday 9 November 2009 night, as the crème de la crème of the recently concluded S.League season were presented with their hard-won awards at the 14th Great Eastern-YEO’S S.League Awards Night 2009.

It was a wet night during the clash between Singapore and Indonesia.
 
One man and his trusty left foot, Shaiful Esah, created all three goals in the 3-1 friendly win over Indonesia on Wednesday (4 Nov). Shaiful’s deadly free kicks into the opponents penalty area were delivered accurately to Aleksandar Duric (10th, 58th minute) and Noh Alam Shah (21st) before going to the back of the net.

The modest 23-year-old said, “My focus was entirely on the game and I’m just glad that my concentration paid off. I want to contribute more.”
