Over 10,000 local runners took part in this year's Nike+ Human Race 10k in Singapore.
 
Running is one of the more popular sports in Singapore. Be it a 5 km or 10 km fun run, a half marathon, or even a full marathon, you can expect any running event to receive an overwhelming response from Singaporeans. This year Singapore is the only South East Asian nation to hold the Nike Human Race and also the first city to fill up its registration in a record time of just six days. I for one, decided to join the race to see what the hype was all about.

Shoppers at Jurong Point kicking up a storm at AWDO roadshow
 
In preparation for the Amore Women's Day Out (AWDO) 2010 which is to be held on 6th March 2010 at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, the Singapore Sports Council and Amore Fitness Pte Ltd jointly held a roadshow at Jurong Point on 24th October 2009 to introduce women to the idea of a mass aerobics workout. For half an hour in the evening, kickboxing instructors from Amore Fitness Pte Ltd went on stage to lead a group of about 50 women in performing a physically demanding routine that incorporated punches, kicks, elbow strikes, and other sophisticated moves that one usually sees only in martial arts movies.

Team Singapore is all set to fly the Singapore flag high at the 3rd Asian Indoor Games, which will be held from 30 October to 8 November 2009 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Singapore will be fielding a contingent of 39 athletes, who will be competing in six events - Bowling, Cuesports, Dancesport, Indoor Petanque, Silat and Xiangqi. Vincent Eu, Assistant Director, Major Games Preparations, Sports Development Group, Singapore Sports Council, will be leading the Team Singapore contingent to the event as the Chef de Mission.

More than 10,000 participants in Singapore leg and many more connected via the Nike+ Community as they join the world’s largest one-day running celebration together
 
 More than 10,000 local runners joined a million others from more than 30 other cities around the globe today, in the world’s largest one-day running event, the Nike+ Human Race 10K. The Singapore leg of the race saw about 60% of the participants below 25 years of age, making it one of the most anticipated events for youths in Singapore.
 
Singapore is the only South East Asian nation selected among other cities such as London, New York, Los Angeles and Paris in the multi-city event and was the first city in the world to close registration in a record six days. Such was the enthusiastic response that Nike for the first time, opened the Nike+ Human Race Concert to 3,000 members of the public, to have a chance to be part of the exciting celebration on “the Day the World Runs”.

Even though the Singapore team beat the Brunei outfit 87 - 69 previously at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, coach Frank Arsego is aware that going on the road spells a different ball game. The Slingers will be meeting the Barracudas once again on 24 October, and this time round, the Brunei team will be enjoying home ground advantage.

Rock acts such as Estranged and Agrikulture will join local bands The Fire Fight and Composition B on stage for a musical treat at the world’s largest running event!

Some 3,000 people will get the opportunity to watch their favorite local and regional bands live on stage this Saturday at the F1 Track during the Nike+ Human Race 10K. With all registration slots snapped up in a record six days for the race of more than 10,000 runners, the Nike+ Human Race concert will now open its doors to members of the public on Saturday, 24th October.

Hot and humid weather in the morning of Oct 18th 2009 set the stage for the crowning of the Singapore Nation.al Mountain Biking Championship at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Mountain Biking Trail. This 6.5km mountain biking cross country track last held a mountain biking event in 2007, and the 160 participants that took the line were looking forward to battle it out in this classic race course.

Just as the Singapore Slingers were fighting to overcome an unassailable Philippine Patriots defence, it was ironically a Filipino who masterminded the fall of the Philippine outfit. 
 
The Slingers thumped the Patriots 74-69 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 18 October to kick off a perfect start to their first ever ASEAN Basketball League campaign with two wins from two games.

OCBC Bank and Spectrum Worldwide announced today the return of the annual OCBC Cycle Singapore on Saturday, 6 March and Sunday, 7 March 2010. With an expected increase in the number of participants, the event is scheduled to take place over two days, with children pushing their pedals on the first day and the adults following up on the next.  

Over 5,300 riders of every level took to the roads in the inaugural event which was held in February this year. The OCBC Cycle Singapore 2010 aims to get 3,000 more riders to sign up. It also acknowledges the need to give back to the community and has chosen the National Cancer Centre Research Foundation (NCCRF) to be the event’s beneficiary charity.
