In a historic first for a marathon in Singapore, participants of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2010 can look forward to nothing but an experience of a lifetime as they either run down Orchard Road, through Universal Studios Singapore in Sentosa or on the newly opened Helix Bridge, depending on which category they sign up for. In what is being billed as Singapore’s pinnacle running event, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) - the organisers of the inaugural SCMS 2010 with Standard Chartered Bank as the title sponsor, today opened registrations for the year-end event with six race categories allowing for participation from more segments of the public.

In the past year, Singapore’s youth athletes have been dedicating themselves to their sport with the hope of being part of Team Singapore for the upcoming Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. As Singapore 2010 draws closer, a few of these athletes will lend a hand in drumming up support from Singaporeans to build up the excitement of Singapore 2010 as the event draws closer.
 
Together with the Singapore Sports Council, several youth athletes will be making their rounds to various schools in a series of roadshows to garner support from the students, not only for Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, but also for the Team Singapore contingent representing the nation at the event. Titled the Singapore Youth Athletes-In-Training Outreach Programme, these series of roadshows are organised by the SSC, in partnership with Nestle Milo.

Singapore’s hopes for a medal in football at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) this August took a slight knock after the groupings were revealed at the PSA Building Auditorium on Tuesday, 18 May.
 
Kadir Yahaya’s boys face a tough task after being drawn with Montenegro and Zimbabwe in Group D. Vanuatu, Bolivia and a country representing the Americas will square off in Group C.

The Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced a partnership that will tap on the growing popularity of basketball in Singapore to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to youth throughout the country. 
 
Through this partnership, the SSC and the NBA will develop multifaceted programmes, clinics, and competitions to further engage Singapore’s youth in health and fitness. The nation’s basketball landscape continues to grow with more than 1,000 free-to-play basketball courts. These programmes will bring top-level NBA talent to the country to teach basketball fundamentals, increase participation, and give back to the community through NBA Cares events.

The record-breaking national 4 x 100m men’s relay team officially legitimized their sponsorship agreement with VGO Corporation Limited on Friday, 14 May at the Mizuno Concept Store in Paragon Shopping Centre.
 
Sprinters Gary Yeo, Lee Cheng Wei, Muhammad Amirudin and Muhammad Elfi, along with their coach, Melvin Tan, were present for this historic occasion. The team will be sponsored with track and field equipment worth more than $10,000, courtesy of VGO Corporation Limited.

Singapore’s up and coming golfers will get their opportunity to vie for a place in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.
 
The fifth edition of the Faldo Series Singapore Championship, which will be played at the Raffles Country Club’s par-72 Palm Course, will see about 40 of the Republic’s male and female golfers aged 12-21 do battle over two days in June.
