Back in 2007, a young Singaporean footballer beat 13 of his peers from across Asia to be named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at reigning European Champions Barcelona’s famed youth academy following a week-long stint.
 
Under the watchful eyes of the club’s coaches, who have also nurtured players like Bojan Krkic, Hariss Harun excelled in the one-off training camp to earn himself the MVP award.

The Malaysian Arowanas have two of the tallest players in the FairPrice Foundation Netball Super League (NSL) 2010 playing for them in the form of Goal shooter Norashikin Kamal Zaman and Goal attacker Noor Atikah Mat Salleh who stand at 1.88m and 1.78m respectively.
 
The partnership between them has seen their side storm to the top of the league. The Arowanas are unbeaten with 12 wins from 12, and have qualified for the finals, where they will come up against the Mighty Mannas.

With less than four months to go before the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games, Singaporeans have been urged to rally behind Team Singapore and make themselves heard at the various Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games competition venues across the nation through a new cheer song that was unveiled by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) today as part of its Cheer Singapore initiative.

What do American swimming sensation Michael Phelps, Chinese diver Guo Jingjing, and Russian Olympic pole vaulting champion Yelena Isinbayeva all have in common? Well, besides the fact that they are all international sporting superstars of course.
 
Come Aug 14 - 26, all three athletes will be in Singapore to show their support for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Their role as ambassadors of the Games is to encourage young people all around the world to participate in and enjoy sports. The stars will also be expected to mingle with the young athletes here as part of the Games’ culture and education programme.

SAFFC were brought back down to earth hard at the Suwon World Cup stadium on Tuesday, 27 April, as they were thrashed 6-2 by hosts Samsung Suwon Bluewings in their final Asian Champions League group stage match.
 
The Warriors were on a high after registering their first ever victory in the ACL over Chinese side Henan Jianye two weeks ago, and threatened to repeat that feat with only five minutes on the clock.

Geylang United ended their AFC Cup campaign without a win after playing out a 1-1 draw with SHB Da Nang on Tuesday, 27 April, at Jalan Besar Stadium.
 
The match was inconsequential - Da Nang had already qualified for the next stage, while the Eagles were already eliminated- and only came to live in the final five minutes.

Geylang failed to qualify for the knock out stages after failing to win their previous five matches, and Eagles boss Mike Wong hopes to set the record straight against the Vietnamese giants.

The flat Changi Coast Road along the Changi airport runway played host to the annual team time trials on Sunday, 25 April. A record turnout of 400 riders forming 114 teams took the line in teams of two or four, putting weeks of training and team work to the test.
 
Team Bike Boutique Racing (The Bike Boys) work their way to a 1st place finish for the Mens Open with an average speed of 46kmph over the 48km course, extending Tim Clarsen’s lead for the Mens Open classification in the process.

This morning’s (25th April) National Schools Sport Climbing Championship (NSSCC) came to a rousing close at SAFRA Yishun for 12 young sport climbers who earned the right to represent Singapore at the upcoming Asian Youth Cup 2010, to be held in Indonesia later this year.

 

Jointly organised by the Singapore Mountaineering Federation and SAFRA Adventure Sports Center, this year’s competition attracted a total of 410 competitors from 20 secondary schools and junior colleges, marking an eight percent increase in participation.
