Crunch time for Raddy's Lions

The fight could not have been any closer than this. Of all the five groups involved in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign, the Lions’ Group E is the only group in which no team is eliminated, yet. Gulf powerhouse Iran is currently perched on top of the group at 10 points, and is assured a spot in the Asian Cup. Thailand are second with six points, their superior goal difference is the only thing separating them from third-placed Singapore. Jordan is at the bottom of the group with five points.

Reflections from Bike Rally 2010

Who would have imagined it was possible to complete a total of 128km or even 168km on a bicycle around Singapore?
 
Nearly 700 participants came together at East Coast Park for Bike Rally 2010 held on the 21st February 2010 to challenge and push themselves over their limits to complete the biking route set out by the NTU Sports Club. Participants came from within and outside of NTU - including students from other institutions as well as the general members of the public.

More than 9000 riders will saddle up for OCBC Cycle Singapore- Strongest lineup of professionals prepare for elite showdown

The second edition of OCBC Cycle Singapore will see a staggering 9,100 participants riding in the two day event on 6 and 7 March 2010. Almost doubling the number of riders from 2009, there will be 70 nationalities represented in an action-packed weekend of cycling for all ages and abilities.
 
The highlight of the race would no doubt be the professional criterium, which flags off at 12.30pm on Sunday.

The award recognises individuals, coaches and organisations for contributing consistently and selflessly to the championing and promotion of sports. They energise the local sports scene and inspire others to embrace a sports culture in Singapore, in line with the Let’s Play spirit.

A great week of Championship golf for the fans

While the top 63 players of women’s golf slugged it out at the 2010 HSBC Women’s Champions, it is certainly reasonable to say the winner would be a deserving one. Victory is uncertain but one thing is for sure, in the end, it is the spectators who emerge victorious.
 
Spectators of all degrees of fandom came out to watch and support the players. Reports of difficult weather conditions and costly mistakes created a thrilling backdrop to the tournament.

Ai Miyazato might have won the HSBC Women’s Champions, her second tournament in two weeks, but on Friday night, 26 February, it was Jiyai Shin’s caddy Dean Herden who took home the storied HSBC Caddy of the Year award at the much talked about caddies’ night.

Basketballers in Court!

Ever since 3-on-3 basketball was included as an official sport in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the local basketball scene has seen a surge in the number of "streetball" events being organised. From the Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS)/Converse 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge to charity events like Dunk! For Fund, this miniature version of the popular sport is taking on a whole new life of its own. And so it was that on Sunday the 28th of February, the official launch of Singapore's 1st online basketball magazine was celebrated with a 3-on-3 basketball event.

The lure of Hockey 6s

Hockey probably is not quite like how football is in Singapore - you don't get much of an enthusiastic reaction from a typical Singaporean when you say "India vs Pakistan!” But this sport still has its followers, and the 16th Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Hockey 6s Tournament 2010, held on February 27 and 28, is a testament to the cult status this sport has achieved in Singapore.
