Slingers Out To Create History

The Slingers took game one of the Slingers Finals Series, sponsored by UPS, last Sunday in Singapore, with an emphatic 87-68 victory in front of 2,800 people at the Singapore indoor Stadium. American imports Michael LeBlanc and Kyle Jeffers led the way for the Slingers with 22 and 21 points respectively. Local 'Home Grown Hero' Hong Wei Jian once again delighted the crowds with his athleticism collecting 11 points along the way to be the Slingers third highest scorer.

Leading The Way - Singapore Team Win Three Golds At Asian Youth Meet In Kuwait

There was more success as Bernice's strong performances also earned her the all-events title, bringing our total number of gold medals to three. Her 4,242 pinfalls gave her an impressive average of 235.6. In the doubles, she and Hui Fen had 2,889 pinfalls over six games as they edged out opponents from South Korea (2,590) and Malaysia (2,587).

The 2010 S-League season kicked off at Jalan Besar Stadium on 2 February 2010, and more than 2700 fans witnessed a thrilling 2-2 draw between the Young Lions and Woodlands Wellington.

The points were shared when Young Lions defender Afiq Yunos bundled in a stoppage time equalizer, thus ensuring that neither team would go home empty handed.

Singapore Badminton’s $8.8m windfall

Chinese New Year came early for the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) when it was announced on 1 February 2010, that China sports brand, Li Ning will be sponsoring the SBA in cash and kind, to a whopping sum of $8.8 m over a period of four years.

This sponsorship includes being the title and equipment sponsor of the Li-Ning Singapore Open Super Series (if the Badminton World Federation awards the hosting rights to SBA for 2011-13), the Li-Ning Singapore International Series , the Li-Ning Singapore Youth International, the Li-Ning National Team Championships and the Official Apparel and Equipment Sponsor of National Teams 1 and 2, Youths and Juniors.

Slingers expect hostile reception in Jakarta

The Singapore Slingers can expect a less than friendly welcome in Jakarta on Wednesday, 3 February, when they face Satria Muda BritAma in the second game of their Asean Basketball League (ABL) playoffs.

The Slingers beat their Indonesian rivals 87-68 in the first game and Satria Muda will be out for revenge on their home turf.

The opening game of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) best-of-three semi-final play-off series saw the Singapore Slingers outclass their Indonesian opponents Satria Muda BritAma 87 - 68. A 1500-strong crowd was at the Singapore Indoor Stadium to give their roaring support to the Slingers.

Run Charity, Run - Who Says Singaporeans Have No Initiative?

It seems that Singaporeans have a bad rep when it comes to the issue of compassion and empathy. But this Sunday’s Run for My Lunch Event organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic students revealed a different side of the story.

Around 1700 people gathered at East Coast Park at around 7.30 in the morning waiting for the race to kick off. Some of the participants were disabled and proceeds went to SAC’s (Student Advisory Centre) The Lunch Box Fund. The money raised for the event will find their way to students in need of financial assistance. Approximately $50 000 was raised.

What are they Running on?

Singapore has never seen something quite like this.

At its core, the Urbanathlon was a running event. However, what set it apart are the obstacles that are scattered throughout the 12.5Km circuit.

First started in 2006, the Men’s Health Urbanathlon has finally arrived on local shores, 4 years down. Evident by the full take up rate, the event was clearly a winner amongst local sporting individuals looking to experience something new and fun.

Tan Eng Yoon -- A mentor to many, a friend to all

On 30 January 2010, Singapore lost one of its greatest-ever sports icon tragically.

Mr Tan Eng Yoon, was hit by a car while crossing Upper Thomson Road after morning mass at the Church of the Holy Spirit. He was 82.

A mentor to many in the Singapore sporting fraternity, Mr Tan was an established sprinter in his own right.
