The Singapore Sports Council (SSC), the organiser of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010, rolled out a comprehensive incentive scheme to raise competition levels and the quality of runners for Singapore’s most eagerly anticipated running event which will be held on at 5 December. Complete details of the three new routes were also announced, to provide all participants with as much time as possible to familiarise themselves with their respective race routes with the event now less than six weeks away.

Participants in the Nike City 10K Run were finally able to literally breathe a sigh of relief yesterday as haze levels dropped to a favourable level - allowing the run to ahead as planned.
 
More than 10,000 runners attended the run which took off next to the Marina Bay Floating Platform.

The Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) was victorious, as both their men’s and women’s teams emerged champions in the 17th
Hollandse Club Wooden Shoe Hockey Tournament.
 
The tournament, organised by the Hollandse Club’s Dutch Hockey community, was held yesterday at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium. The tournament featured 30 teams, 14 women’s and 16 men’s, from the various schools’ teams and hockey clubs.

A spread of rugby giants will be stomping and scrumming on the Padang this November as the Singapore Cricket Club confirms its biggest list of names for the International Rugby 7s. The event will feature teams from 15 countries and, for the first time, an international women’s tournament.

Defending champions, the South African Vipers who just recently won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games is the team to look out for. Their squad consists of eight medal winners as well as Cecil Afrika and Bernardo Botha, both of whom are no strangers to the Singapore Cricket Club 7s (SCC 7s).

The Singapore Olympic Team departed for the 2010 Vietnam Youth Newspaper Cup in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday, 21 October. Singapore has been draw in Group B and will take on causeway rivals Malaysia tomorrow, 23 October before facing the Vietnam Under-19 squad on Monday, Oct 25.
 
Led by coach Terry Pathmanathan, the competition will kick start Singapore's preparations for their Olympic qualifiers scheduled for February next year.

Golf fans will be in for nail-biting golfing action next month as no less than four major golf champions meet in Singapore to contend for the prize money in the Barclays Singapore Open, one of Singapore’s richest golf tournaments. Returning to defend his title will be Ian Poulter, currently ranked world number 16.
 
Poulter was the first Englishman to win the Singapore Open last year when he beat China's Liang Wen Chong by one stroke to take home the winner’s purse of US$833,330. The 34-year-old has been in the golfing limelight not just for his flamboyant dress-sense but also for his feats in the international golfing scene.

Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang announced yesterday that event organisers Singapore Grand Prix and other government bodies were looking into extending the current contract.

The Young Lions have taken the steam out of Gombak United’s goal to finish their Yeo’s S-League campaign in the top four, after last night’s clash ended in a 1-1 draw.
 
The Bulls had walked away with a single point to give them a total of 44 points.  SAFFC is currently in fourth spot with 46 points.

Gombak United will go up against the Young Lions in the penultimate game of this season Yeo’s S-League campaign as they aim to capture full points to get into the top four by this season’s end.
 
The Bulls are sitting at fifth place with 43 points, just three points shy of SAFFC who hold the current fourth spot making tonight’s match against the Young Lions one they cannot afford to lose.
