 Chinese culture was the object of glory and attention at the grand setting of Ngee Ann City for five consecutive nights starting from 1 September. The 15th Ngee Ann City National Lion Dance Championship took place with excitement and fervor.

The National Competition had approximately 5000 participants this year compared to the 4000 teams that participated last year. It marked a significant improvement, evincing the undying passion of tradition and history.

7 September 2009 - As Singapore Sports Council continues its evaluation on the three consortiums bidding for the building of the Changi Motorsports Hub; the media set out to evaluate the different consortium’s brainchild.

In tandem with the ideal foresight of developing Singapore into a vibrant sporting hub, Singapore Sports Council initiated the concept of constructing a Motorsports Hub.  It released a Request For Proposal (RFP) inviting associations to design and build and administer the Motorsports Hub.

SINGAPORE - 7 September 2009 - DBS Group (DBS) is now the Official Banking Partner of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010), with the signing of the sponsorship agreement between the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and DBS today.

As Official Banking Partner, DBS will provide branch banking services, and in conjunction with Visa, ATM services at the Youth Olympic Village and other Singapore 2010 venues. DBS and Visa will also be issuing 500,000 pre-paid cards equipped with transit functions for Singapore 2010 accredited personnel and ticketed spectators.

How it is that one can muster the willpower to wake up at 4am on a lazy Sunday morning?
For 48 -year-old Hanniel Choong, the challenge of completing a 10km run under 48 minutes is a monumental reason to rise at dawn. For someone of his age and medical background, completing this race will be an impossible task.

Having been the face of the inaugural Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2009 --- Beyond the Run, Choong arrived early at the SAF open field near Changi Village to express his determination and interest in achieving the intangible motto of the race, which is to offer a second chance for ex-offenders. These motto was shared by over 6000 participants , who were there to compete in the 10km competitive run, while others were simply there to enjoy a good morning workout in the 5km fun run.

Botswana and Norway are relegated to Division 7 while Guernsey and Malaysia stay put
 
Bahrain will join Singapore in Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 next year after it secured a 233-run victory over Norway today at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div. 6) in Singapore.

The home team defeated Malaysia by four wickets forcing it into third place, while Guernsey beat Botswana by 25 runs to ensure it stays in WCL Div. 6. Saturday’s finalists will join Fiji, Jersey, USA and Nepal in the Division 5 tournament which will be staged in Nepal from 20 to 27 February 2010.

Singapore defeated Bahrain by 68 runs in the final of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div.6) at the Kalang on Saturday.

While the host team, which has also beaten Bahrain in the round match, finished unbeaten in the tournament, the defeat didn’t stop Bahrain from proceedings to the WCL Div.5 along with Singapore in front of an appreciative crowd at the Kalang ground.

Guernsey and Malaysia were victorious in today’s reserve day matches in Singapore at the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div.6).

After poor weather on Tuesday forced two fixtures to be abandoned, the Kalang ground hosted Malaysia’s victory over Botswana, while the Indian Association was the venue as Guernsey beat Norway.

Singapore earned promotion to Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 (WCL Div.5) after it recorded its fourth successive victory in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div.6) in Singapore on Wednesday.

At the Kalang, Singapore defeated Norway by eight wickets with Buddhika Mendis following up his yesterday’s 104 with a fine 90 and Narender Reddy contributing a flawless 82 not out.

Buddhika Mendis stroked an unbeaten century to steer Singapore to its third victory in a row in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div. 6) when it defeated Bahrain by seven wickets on a rain-affect day on Tuesday.

Play began at all the three venues but heavy rain set in around midday and only Singapore and Bahrain were able to finish their fixture at the Singapore Cricket Club ground while matches at the Kalang and the Indian Association ground were washed off.
