Singapore, 7 October 2009 - A recent survey commissioned by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) for 2008 showed that although more females (50%) were participating in sports, they still fall below their active male counterparts (64%). The main reason cited for Singaporean women not exercising is the lack of time due to work and family commitments. Hence, to show, to remind, women just how fun and easy it is to incorporate play and sports into their lifestyle, and to do so while including their daughter, mother and girlfriends, the SSC will be organising the Amore Women’s Day Out 2010 (AWDO 2010) on 6 March 2010.

Singapore will be holding yet another Nations Cup this year at the newly renovated Toa Payoh Sports Hall. This week-long competition will feature six top netballing nations from 6-12 December. Teams returning to Singapore for the fourth edition of the Nations Cup will be Canada (ranked 21st), Northern Ireland (19th) and Scotland (13th). New to the competition are the Cook Islands (7th) and Malaysia (20th). Singapore are currently ranked 15th in the world so it should be a closely contested tournament with the Cook Islands and fast improving Scotland starting as favourites.

The competition has now been expanded to include six nations. This gradual step-up in the size and therefore complexity of event management   is important for Netball Singapore in the upgrading of our organisational skills towards hosting the World Netball Championships in 2011, “

The Nations Cup is a platform for the competing teams to improve on their IFNA world rankings and to test themselves against other teams with different playing styles. ESPN Star Sports will be covering the event which will be aired across 17 Asian countries.
