Touted as the largest outdoor sporting facility in the heartlands to date, the $1.8m Bishan Active that took three years to build, opened amid much fanfare last August. And indeed, it lives up to its reputation with the gamut of amenities available.
Joggers can enjoy a leisure run along the 375m track that circles the park. Kids are kept happy at the children’s playground, while the grandparents work out at the senior citizens’ fitness corner. Two additional fitness corners are available as well to provide for more challenging work-outs.
The size of two football fields, the park easily contains a basketball court, a beach volleyball court, a roller blade track and also a football pitch.
Youths from neighbouring schools such as Catholic High have found a place outside of school to play sports at. The basketball court and the soccer field remain favourite hangouts for these youths who can indulge in some healthy activities after school.
Sports lovers will also be delighted to know that several community competitions have since been held at Bishan Active, with the latest being Bishan Active Vspike 2009. The preliminaries, held over last weekend, saw overwhelming response from avid beach volleyballers. Be prepared to slap on the sunblock and bring along your shades to catch some serious spiking action at the finals, to be held on 17 May!
